Galasso - Where do we go from here?
You’ve taken the fist step to improve
your game, now what? Ralph Maltby the Dean of modern day equipment
says there are five ways to Game Improvement:
Step 1 Professional Swing Instruction
Step 2 Properly Fit, Quality Equipment
Step 3 Practice
Step 4 Play
Step 5 Positive Attitudes (Confidence)
The first two steps are the responsibility of
others; the last three are all up to you. The fact you are
reading this is a good indication you have taken the first
step, seeking professional swing instruction. By selecting
the Golf Performance Center you have selected a good one.
You have listened intently to what your “Pro”
has told you about the swing, understand the concepts of balance,
path, setup, weight-shift yet there is something missing.
The ball just sits there, waiting for the proper swing do
be delivered with the club and launch it to the target. Without
step 2 Properly Fit, Quality Equipment, your chances of landing
the ball where you want it, with any consistency, even with
the most perfect swing are quite low.
Imagine a carpenter or a brick mason without
the proper tools, the job would get completed because of their
talents as craftsmen but it would take a lot more time and
energy and probably not be too much fun. Think of your clubs
as your tools, you will get the ball in the hole with any
old set but I guarantee after a while it will not be too much
fun, and golf is a game, it supposed to be fun.
In the coming weeks we will
discuss the effects of proper fitting equipment as it relates
to distance, accuracy, trajectory, spin and feel the five
characteristics equipment has on your score. We will be quoting
from such publications as The Practical Clubfitting Program,
The Perfect Fit by Jeff Sheets, Total Clubfitting in the 21st
Century by Jeff Jackson & Jeff Summitt, The Complete Golf
Club Fitting Plan by Ralph Maltby, In Search of the Perfect
Golf Club by Tom Wishon, and a few tricks I have learned over
the years. I’ve been building, fitting and repairing
golf clubs for the last 34 years; I just may have picked up
some things you might be interested in.
